I chose Hawaii because it’s one of my dream destinations to visit! I wanted my logo and map to have a warm colorful look just like the islands themselves.
The task was to create in Adobe Illustrator a real or fictional map, with main roadways, points of interest, along with designing a logo to promote tourism. I used a vector drawing of the Hawaiian Islands to start with to get my map close to scale. I used the pen tool to draw in the major roadways, then researched the most visited tourism destinations to put for points of interest.
I wanted my logo design to showcase the beauty of Hawaii along with a modern simplistic font. I chose Good Dog New a comic and hand drawn font. Hawaii’s most famous flower, the plumeria, is known for its intoxicating scent and use in lei making. This seemed like a good representation of Hawaii for a logo. Having the black logo version increased its merchandising power. Aloha!
